When a band I was in wanted to do that, the law was confusing enough
that even my regular lawyer suggest that I seek the advise of an
intellectually property lawyer that specializes in the music industry.
What we ended up doing was to contact the artist and get written
permission to use their material. The second alternative turned out
to be *much* easier than the other route.

Good luck! Also, maybe have a look at the GrokLaw website.
