The bad news is that the card you're describing isn't actually an AWE64
-- that's a much older card that uses an ISA slot. The card you have
doesn't have synth support under Linux; in fact, I'm not even sure that
it has a synth, since I think on Windows the drivers simply emulate a
synth in software.

The good news is that if you just want to work with Rosegarden, you
don't need a hardware synth, since you can use both JACK softsynths and
DSSI synth plugins. If you want to use General MIDI sounds, I'd install
Qsynth and the Fluid GM soundfont (from the "fluid-soundfont-gm"
package), run Qsynth, load that soundfont, and then connect Rosegarden
to that.
