Yes and yes.

But it's also very clear that if the existence of such a journal (in
whatever form) depends on advertising only, it can't be critical of
the products being advertised. You'd need some income from your
readers as well to remain even marginally independent. And there's
the problem: most people today are quite prepared to have their souls
sold as cannon fodder to advertisers in exchange for something 'free',
even if what they get in return is 99% junk. They are not prepared
to pay for information.

I find that a bit hard to believe, given its current contents and
history.
