Most do that... probably not sony and stay away from i-anything (Apple)

I would look for a usb stick with mp3 playback. These are intended to be
used as a USB stick, but will play mp3s too. Because the MP3 playback is
really a gimmick to get more money for a simple USB stick, the mp3 player
is likely to be really simple... probably just what you need/want. (expect
the salesman to tell you it is really not that good... in fact that would
be an indication you are getting something closer to your needs)

 I understand about menus and displays. I work outside and the sun makes
most screens (including my phone) unreadable. So even being sighted I
find similar issues. I find cheaper is simpler. One way to get around
directories is to try putting things in the main directory. It will play
things in order of file name that way.
