i picked up a lenovo thinkpad t430s in late december and it's an awesome
machine. the current generation of lenovos seem pretty good. running
arch on it, everything worked out of the box.

i also picked up a focusrite scarlett 2i2 interface, which is fantastic
and also worked out of the box. however, i note that you're looking for
"cheap", and the scarlett is unfortunately about 140eur.

in terms of cheap audio interfaces, i'd honestly go for a used native
instruments USB interface. they're fully supported and you can get
absurdly low latencies with them. i have an audio4 dj i use for DJing
(with xwax) in addition to the scarlett i use for everything else.
