Similar motivation lead to the creation of midifilter.lv2 actually.

There's probably nothing that you cannot already do with midish,
qmidiroute, mididings, or even Pd, sc, etc.

Except, with the LV2s you get tempo sync, [sample accurate] automation.
State and connections are saved/loaded with the DAW session. Undo
functionality is available from within the DAW as are presets and UI
controls..

I find these very convenient when working on audio.
