Even today, some philharmonic orchestras are not tuned to A 440Hz.
Other tunings are certainly not dramatically off from 440Hz, but this
is just to say that A 440Hz is not set in stone.
It is normal that a higher frequency will provoke different reactions.
It is physical. And it also depends on the sensibility of the
listeners. Persons working with a jackhammer all day long tolerates it
while others could not withstand 10 seconds. It"s relative although at
the same time, there are physical reactions to frequencies, in general.
Was it Robert Fripp who did a series of solo "concerts" in the 80s where
he would test various frequencies on the audience ?
