Keep in mind that they sell DVDs and ask for donations, but that they
don't provide a user mailing list! Very often Mint users can't get help
by the Mint Forums and ask for help on Ubuntu mailing lists. While
Ubuntu users are willing to help Mint users, it's often impossible to
help, since from an Ubuntu user's point of view Mint packages are third
party packages.

IMO it's foolish to use Mint. What is the reason to prefer an Ubuntu
derivative over an official Ubuntu flavour?

"What is this list for?

ubuntu-users is a mailing list staffed by volunteer community members
to provide technical support to Ubuntu Users.

Users of Ubuntu and officially supported derivatives (Kubuntu,
Edubuntu, Xubuntu, Lubuntu [1]) can get support here. Users of
derivatives (such as Backtrack and Linux Mint) are not officially
supported." - https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuUsersListFAQ#FAQ1

[1] the list of Ubuntu flavours is incomplete, however, apart from the
ubuntu-users mailing list, the flavours have their own mailing lists,
for example Ubuntu Studio
