[LAU] split sound card into multiple cards

Hello,

I've read that ALSA can split a sound card with multiple physical channels
into separate "sound cards" within the system.

Is that possible?

I've searched the internet for examples but could not find definitive help.

I have a:

$ grep -i delta /proc/asound/cards
 1 [M1010 ]: ICE1712 - M Audio Delta 1010
                      M Audio Delta 1010 at 0xc8a0, irq 16

which has 8 physical input ports and 8 physical output ports.

Also, is it possible to switch input ports to be output ports with ALSA
commands?
