It's hotpluggable/always detected by ALSA's USB Audio Driver, and registers as hw:CODEC. lsusb shows it as some sort of Texas Instrument audio interface, IIRC.

FWIW I've had a number of occasions where USB2 compliant units behave strangely
when plugged into a USB3 socket - even though the unit shows up in lsusb on a
USB2 hub
