Rosegarden would be far too complicated, and would be trivially easy to get
into a state the intended users wouldn't be able to get out of - and I say that
as someone who uses it exclusively!

Seq 24, 64 etc are tracker style and not really suited to continuous live
recording.

Midieditor is exactly the right format, but doesn't appear to have any current
activity. It's a debian package so not editable. Also the GUI somewhat
primitive and has odd quirks. It always opens full screen, and seems to insist
on GM instrument names. Dragging a note expands it until you let go, when it
snaps back to size at the new position. Rather strangely, when recording
incoming mIDI it doesn't show notes as they are played, or even finished, but
only after you completely stop.

helio-workstation I haven't been able to build yet. Maybe I'm getting stupid in
my old age, but I can't seem to find any real build instructions.
