Now _that_ is very intriguing, and not just from an audio standpoint.
eWhat makes a language (not an OS) inherently realtime oriented? C, C++,
and Pascal (the system languages of Unix, Windows, and MacOS respectively)
make no availability guarantees for realtime purposes that I know about.
If you just mean fast, there are a number of existing Scheme
implementations or variations that use just-in-time compilation to achieve
pretty impressive speed (or so they claim). Check Freshmeat. I
personally rather like the idea of working in Scheme for practical,
everyday purposes. I only wish there was some ubiquitous implementation
that could be relied upon in the manner of C or Perl (Guile just isn't
there yet).
