What is the possibility of making at least a subset of the API
cross-platform. These days when everyone feels that Linux has
already achieved World Domination(TM), it is easy to loose sight
of the fact that 'Freedom of Choice (TM)' was once a noble goal.
Perhaps a good, simple, easily supported cross-platform API would
entice closed-source vendors to consider Linux, thus enhancing
perception of Linux to hardware vendors.
If latency happens to suck on particular platforms after the API
becomes a standard...
