and `file' is not /dev/*, then having sndlib_init() requiring access
to /dev/dsp and its friends is a little excessive. it can lead to
situations where a function call like open_sound_input() will fail due
to lack of access to a resource that is not needed, and hasn't been
requested. i've bumped into this at least once ... i think.
but, hey .. this is open source software, and if i cared enough, i'd
fix it!
