Subject: [linux-audio-dev] Linux-friendly MIDI interface boxes?

Has anyone out there had experience using any of the common MIDI interface
boxes (Midiman, Mark of the Unicorn, Emagic, etc) with Linux? Are any of
them even sufficiently documented to write free software that supports
them? My studio is rapidly growing beyond the size for which a
single-port MIDI loop is manageable; in particular since I am working on
an "Emacs for patches and sequences" it would be nice to be able to have
an in/out loop to every device from the computer, and this requires an
interface. I was hoping for USB stuff to come out faster so as not to
have to invest in disappearing hardware, but music stuff seems to have
longer lifetime than computer stuff anyway, so I guess a parallel one
would be ok too.

I have contacted Midiman tech support but they were less than helpful
(read: clueless). There seem to be a lot of sequencers out there but I
have not found mention of interface boxes in any of their documentation...
maybe I am missing something transparent?

thanks for any help you can give me,
Chris Jeris
