It has been feasible for Cygnus for the last ten years, but this was
selling support and porting services for large corporations. It gets
more difficult when trying to sell to end users. Though I wonder if
less technical musicians might pay just for nice packaging and
hand holding, rather than suffer through downloading/compiling.
It is definitely a business model I intend on trying for music
apps, perhaps after I burnout^H^H^H cash in options ^H^H^H retire :-).

The biggest complaint I have about track sequencers is that they
only allow for tracks. I sometimes think in terms of "processes"
mixed w/ tracks. For example, if I had a bass line on track 1, I
might want track 2 to be an algorithm responding to track 1,
track 3 a filtered random note generator, etc.

Of course, with a more modern architecture, these could all be separate
programs or plugins. Then perhaps the traditional track recorder could
be simplified to nothing more than a disk recorder.
