Well, to me, C++ development environment is the biggest problem.
It is widely used, but still only few Linux distros come with
a good C++ devel-enviroment. If you use standard C++ features like
exceptions, namespaces and STL, you have to have a fairly recent
version of gcc and libstdc++. And to make things even messier,
old, non-standard compliant C++ tools are widely spread. And more is
to come as gcc v3.00 will have a new libstdc++ version altogether...

Same here. I use Qt for GUI-programming, but I use flwm as my WM.

Yep. Code re-use is even more important than avoiding compatibility
problems. Especially with open-source software, it's insane to waste
our time rewriting and retesting software.
