well, the mackie doesn't really stay "in sync" at all, it just
displays timecode and uses it for automation data timestamping, with
which you really can't "hear" out-of-sync-ness.
i can't say that i've tried it against the Alesis M20 ADAT recorders
to date. i can say that some guys in the studio last week were having
problems with sync between the ADAT's as the SMPTE master and an AKAI
MPC2000. its not clear to me whether they were real sync problems, or
a misunderstanding of the difference between a loop and a sequence :)

ps. i believe that most of the sync issues i mentioned in those
mid-year emails were all solved and/or were red-herrings. the one
remaining hard part for ardour is that i don't believe its safe to
send the MTC data from the audio thread, and i don't yet have a scheme
that i trust for getting it sent on time via a different thread.
