As far as I can see, there is a problem with the parameter interface
of VST. VST changes parameters through function calls.

Speaking of the GUI... I believe that it would be a good idea to keep
this entirely outside the binary plugin code, and instead specify the
visual ranges, units etc in some kind of .conf files.

Why?

* Since it doesn't have much to do with the DSP code

* Some systems might not even have a GUI

* Users may want to use different GUIs for the same plugins

* Users can easily customize visual controller ranges, units
  etc, even on binary only (proprietary) plugin, and without
  advanced programming knowledge

* Some control ports may make no sence to a user, as they're
  meant to be controlled via some plugin that controls other
  plugins from a central UI; thus, range, unit,... info makes
  no sense.
