  that's downright ugly. plus all the plugins you use would have to use
same gui or gui part (at least) of plugin would have to run as separate
process (and have its own X connection).

  if it's possible (=good enough) this could be the best way, IMO. some
programs already support XML 'skins', at least freeamp (IIRC), so we
might look there for inspiration.

  ??? you can do that with any X program... but you know that so what do
you mean?

  yes, that's a good idea. for lot of plugins it does not even make
sense to create gui, host can create one based on parameters&hints.
