At AES, MetricHalo showed an 8 i/o FireWire audio box with a
laptop
sitting on top of it. Options include digi and analog
inputs, mic preamps.
They claim it works with any Mac or Win software that'll
handle normal
audio inputs.

They're a worthwhile company and their software products are
killers, so
I've got good hopes for this.
