I am talking about the standard looping in all samplers. Defining a
loop only by its begin and end points effectively creates a butt
splice. It is difficult and sometimes impossible to identify begin and
end points that match perfectly and conform to the desired loop length,
so a standard sample edit feature is to use a small amount after the end
point for fade out, and an equally sized amount before the begin point
for fade in (though this would increase the loop length. Probably a
better method would to use an equally sized amount starting at the loop
begin point). This avoids the abruptness of a raw butt splice and makes
loop editing much easier. A great source for learning about the feature
set of samplers is the owners manuals. Akai makes their manuals
available as zipped pdf files at www.akaipro.com/manuals.html
