No appreciable latency (40micro seconds for the cat 5 and a few hundred
more for some other thing) It is all syncronized to a master clock. However
there is a very detailed and complete specification for the protocol in
downloadable pdf format. Complete with pseudo code for managing the packets
etc...

Should some devices come out that support this it would not be hard at all
to implement.
