these are all cases where there was never any question that the
recording was final. nobody was going to listen afterwards and say
"hmm, it would be great if the kettle drums could move into the
background a little bit during the middle 20 measures of the 2nd
movement."

there is a huge conceptual difference between a 2 track recording and
a multitrack recording. if there wasn't, i could stop working on
ardour and go bake some biscotti instead.
