in this release, its no longer necessary for clients to handle
"changed" messages from the LCP host if they don't want to. in earlier
versions, not handling this would cause problems with pipe data
overflows, blocking behaviour, etc. in 0.2.0, if the client
does not register a "changed" callback when it calls lcp_open(),
the LCP server/host will not bother sending it such messages.
while handling "changed" messages is good style for LCP-based GUIs,
its not mandatory, and it may make some people more reluctant to
get started using LCP because of the conceptual difficulty it may pose.
docs as usual in the header file.
