I like yamaha mixers personally, I use an 01v (small, cheap) but the 02r
is nicer. The yam control protocol is very well documented, and I was
half way through some control software a while ago.

I would go for active monitors. Model is very much a mater of taste.
Make sure they are properly shielded, some aren't.

I use sennheisers, but I've had trouble with them recently, so I might
defect to sony, if thier as good as paul says.

Depends what you want to record with it. You proably want several anyway.
