Though this is a sufficiently often mentioned item in the FAQ and elsewhere -
did you unmute the mixer? Start up alsamixer and check if therequired output
channels have a "MM" at the top of the gauge (and don't forget there might
be more mixers than you see - scroll to the right, navigating with the
cursor keys to see all of them).

Just my 0,02faq,
Frank

I believe IRQ sharing is ok for certain PCI devices - it works fine for me:

franky_AT_tux:~> cat /proc/interrupts
           CPU0
  0: 542788756 XT-PIC timer
  1: 1949287 XT-PIC keyboard
  2: 0 XT-PIC cascade
  8: 3309117 XT-PIC rtc
  9: 16412218 XT-PIC aic7xxx, EMU10K1
 10: 21292998 XT-PIC eth0
 12: 9485465 XT-PIC PS/2 Mouse
 13: 1 XT-PIC fpu
 14: 7446398 XT-PIC ide0
 15: 3127943 XT-PIC ide1
NMI: 0

Frank
