The laptop is a Sony VAIO FX290 with 256Mb of memory, a 30Gb HD, and a
CDRW/DVD drive. I run 2.4.5 with ll patches and ALSA from CVS from when
Pd was last ported to it. The soundcard is an Intel 8x0. I use a
MIDIator for MIDI, since the MTPAV ALSA driver still doesn't do input
correctly. I use the latest version of Pd, 0.33.latest. When ALSA ONE
occurs, I'll upgrade to that as soon as Pd supports it, and then to
ardour and so on.

I'm not having any problems. I've been warned about vm problems in
2.4.5 from the guy who sold me the system (www.emperorlinux.com), and
plan to move to 2.4.6 or later when I find time.
Note that if you want to run GEM with Pd (and who wouldn't?) you'll need
3d hardware. There are only a few laptops that have this. Mine isn't
one of them. I use a completely separate computer for GEM, but I
haven't had the time to put any GEM stuff into a performance yet, so the
portability issue hasn't come up.

I've seen Pd work on windows, although I myself have sworn windows off
for good. The latencies are horrible, and will probably continue to be
unless Pd ever works with ASIO drivers.
