You can't build source against a package unless you have the -devel
package installed (unless thier combined).
If its a c++ package, don't even try using the rpm unless you know it was
built with exactly the same c compiler.
For ardour its better to do everything from source, otherwise when you get
random crashes, you have to go though every library rebuilding them.
That is a *big* job. I've been putting it off for weeks.
