I've recently made some work about this and I've verified this is not
true.
We can write property handling functions in a way to make it infinitely
extensible without a new API.
Of course if we insert a new kind of property we'd need new
accessors/mutators, but never a new API.

I've heard too much time this argument and I've to say that I don't
agree at all.
To overrate existing stuff may have nastier effects than underrate it.
Also consider that commercial closed source software has a *far* slower
improvement cycle and to choose it as an evolution parameter is hardly a
good idea.
