here's some inportant information on soundcard syncing and budget
recording studio. i use linux because i don't like paying hundreds and
thousands for windows software that runs like crap together (my roommate
has done this, and has to fdisk about once a month because one programs
screws up another). i've used several consumer sound cards on linux, and
they all sucked for trying to do any real (even lame) studio-like work
(even if i don't give a damn about latency). oh, and that's just using
one card at a time! so, i went out and bought an m-audio card
(audiophile) for less money than many consumer cards, and it's worth every
damn penny, and then some. plus, when i get more money i can sync up to
four of *any* delta-series cards together, and you can do the same if you
get the terratec or st-audio/hoontech cards with the ice1712 chip (who
knows, you might even be able to sync the cards from the three companies
together). since you just want audio, and aren't terribly concerned with
quality, you can get an st-audio/hoontech card for much less money than an
m-audio card.

quit trying to do musical alchemy - go find a job where you can make
enough money to buy an inexpensive, yet proper card for the job, and you
can do that in less time and less stress than this musical alchemy (which
will only give you aural fool's gold).
