Pardon me but...
How about SoftWire?
This name has a few things going for it.
It has a play on words. (software - softwire)
Its name and meaning are the same. (software wire)
It conforms to the probable next-generation hardware interconnect name.
Stand-alone hardware boxes will be connected with FireWire, stand-alone
software apps will be connected with SoftWire.
The main advantage to this client-server media environment is the
compatibility between otherwise independent apps. The only interest
that users will have regarding this issue is whether or not a particular
app is compatible with their existing daw environment. So look at these
phrases.
LAAGA compatible
JACK compatible
LADMEA compatible
LAIC compatible
SoftWire compatible
To me SoftWire is the most meaningful name for userland, with JACK as a
reasonable second choice. The rest are useless beyond the developer
community.
