I'd say that the most equivalent thing to OpenGL API would be OpenAL API
developed by lokigames, which is by no means created with professional audio
in mind, but rather for entertainment software. So, one could say that while
OpenGL is practically almost as good as the latest Direct3D API (meaning,
top of the line), OpenAL is surprisingly inefficient.
