i believe its a firmware update, but since there is no way to flash
the xilinx fpga (you have to install a new EPROM), i count that as a
h/w update.
i don't know much about the issues with the pcmcia card, so i don't
want to comment on their motives. i suspect that it does work but has
some problem that they plan to fix in a new EPROM/firmware release.
