In physics the intensity of a signal is give by its square, e.g. the
intensity of a sine is I=(sin(x))^2. As sin^2(x)+cos^2(x)=1 the total
power of the signal is conserved over both channels. In case you want to
split up the signal equally we have sin(PI/4)=cos(PI/4)=0.71,
(0.71)^2*2=1
