[My view is biased as Bernard Chavonnet, CDXtract's author, is one of my
friends and I even helped him on some issues for the Mac port & some win32
programming...]

That said I really think it is vastly superior to Translator! Translator is
badly written in Visual Basic, crashes all the time, doesn't do half the
translation rights (their roland deemphasis is just plain wrong... seems
like they never tested with an impulse test signal...) and clearly they
make false advertising claims on their home page: they list all the existing
sampler formats and write in very little fonts that they don't support
them....
CDXtract is THE standard tool used by pros in all the world, its convertion
engine have been licensed to some big names software production houses (its
at the heart of Halion from steinberg...)

Concerning a linux port I know Bernard is not directly opposed to it but:
- CDXtract is his main source of income, it's a fulltime job for him, going
opensource is probably not an option at the moment.
- He is just finishing the mac port which proved to be quite long and
tiresome (as always with the mac)
- He may want to move to some new developpements after the next release...

Please take a look at www.cdxtract.com for yourself.

Sebastien
