I see your point. But feel that the problem is not that it is too
difficult or ugly for the majority of people but that we have not done a
good enough job of showing how worthwhile it is to spend long hours on
figuring out how to get the stuff working.

If someone asks about why the buttons are not the cool flavour of the
month just say we have retro tastes:)

While not everyone has the time or interest or skills to become a
hacker. Most musos do spend very long hours learning how to use their
tools efficiently in any system from the guitar to ardour.

Saying that Linux Audio hackers are the worst kind of geeks is not
looking at this from the right angle. Who gives if we are or we aren't,
the Chemical brothers, and most of Oasis could easily be classified with
the same stereotype. Yet they appeal to a huge number of people mostly
because they have very good promoters working on their behalf.

I don't think we stand much chance of competing anywhere near that level
but we can surely do a lot better than the current scenario.

We are managing to accomplish some pretty amazing things round here but
AfAICT we haven't figured out how to let the right people know about it
to get the kind of boost in user numbers that will make the audio world
pay attention.

While I was in Thailand I spent most of my time pondering how to make
more impact. I have a few ideas which require serious investment of my
time and energy.

As a good friend of mine says if you want to be successful (make money)
in the music industry it's all about how much dick you can suck. Richard
are you prepared to get down? As we all know there is more than one way
to titilate.
