Incidentally I have been looking at getting two mice working on the same
desktop independently of each other but at this point in time it is not
possible.

The other idea I had was to use a joystick like a mouse. Has anybody had
success using a mouse and a joystick under linux? The problem with
joystick approach is that the software would need to be told how to
handle it's signals which means more work :(
