Hmmm, not completely accurate, the software is not in a single
rpm. It is a collection of rpms (no tarballs) that includes a
low latency kernel, alsa 0.9 drivers and some sound and music
applications. All the rpms are meant for redhat 7.x systems.
I'm also providing support rpms for the dependencies that are
not found in a full redhat install (plus upgrades) and that
are needed to install the packages. It's all (well, almost all
:-) documented in the pages.

Given that what I'm distributing are rpms I don't see the
advantage in using a zipfile. It would not help much, as the
person installing the packages would have to learn about using
rpms anyway.

There is also a reason for providing separate rpms, and that
is choice. For example, in the case of my snd rpms choice of
gui and sound driver (2 guis + 3 sound drivers). Of course
choice means somebody has to choose (and learn what's needed
to select the appropriate alternative), but I see that as an
advantage.
