I can easily imagine situations where one might want to record that many
sources.
Of course, if you're doing that, buying a few more disks and setting them
up in a RAID would presumably not be a problem financially.
The problem is that it's diffeicult to find out on the consumer end what
the sustained transfer capabilities of a disk are, and those are usually
much lower than the much more well publicised burst rates, which is what I
assume that 108MBits/s figure is.
