The ICE1712 chip set is a bit strange, if you're used to comsumer
soundcards like Soundblasters. I found, that ALSA's OSS emulation does
not fully work on this cards, e.g the OSS mixer doesn't work, and
recording via OSS gives me junk here. Quake 3 also doesn't handle the
ICE card. But if you stay with ALSA native tools, like arecord, aplay
or some professional audio apps like ecasound or MusE, I have found no
problems with my M-Audio 2496 Audiophile. Make sure, you're using the 0.9
branch of ALSA, at least beta7. I don't know about the Dio card, though.
