Basically, the standard itself keeps rolling along -- we
had a Corrigenda in 2001, which tracked down a set of
bugs -- but its fair to say that we're in search of the
right applications to use the standard in, and in the
end the right applications may be more signal-processing
and compression oriented, rather than musician oriented.
Sfront download statistics from our website shows that
general interest in SA still seems to be there --
the download stats of sep-nov 2001 and sep-nov 2000 are
similiar in size. From handling emails of users, though,
the average new user is more likely to be a new Ph.D.
student looking for an infrastructure for a EE or CS
Ph.D. idea, rather than a musician looking for a new
tool to add to the roster ... of course, some of those EE
projects might end up producing a tool interesting to
musicians ...

Yes, its basically been impossible to get added or deleted
from the mailing lists over the past year or so. I deleted
the link to join the list from our Berkeley webpage a few
months ago ... too many people were frustrated trying to
join.
I still post sfront updates to the list, but the level
of bounced emails increases with each update ... it may
reach a point where I rely on LAD, music-dsp, and related
lists to get the word out for new releases, if the list
membership keeps trailing off ...
