You should try alsa-user first, as those developers are very busy now, that
Linus included ALSA in kernel 2.5 ;)

That is still an ISA card, isn't it? According to the file CARDS-STATUS in
the alsa-driver package (which is more accurate than the website) this is
supported. But if it's an ISA card, I can only recommend:
Get a new one!
It's will not only sound better, PCI will make things a lot more stable.
You can start with a cheap SB 128 PCI, if these are still available.
They should cost only a handfull and they are not bad. Or go for the
most simple SBLive, it's okay also.
You can always get a Midiman Audiophile, later, and keep the old one for
Quake ;)
