hello, LAD and LAU readers !

the mailing list software has been changed.

as of today, the LAD and LAU lists are running mailman.
it will make list maintenance a lot easier, and its header
handling is a little saner than majordomo's, which will hopefully
cure our spamcop problem.

i hope you will enjoy the new web interface and a couple of
extra features.

please take a quick look the updated list homepage at

        http://www.linuxdj.com/audio/lad/ ,

especially the "subscribe" section, for more info on the mailman
procedure.

if you disapprove of any policy statements found there or have any
suggestions, please let me know in private or, if appropriate, feel
free to discuss it on the list to work out a consensus.

you should all have received a mailman subscription confirmation
with a link to the web interface and your password. i hope you will
find some of the new options useful.

there may be a few glitches while the dust settles, and some
majordomo commands performed during the last 24 hours might have
got lost. apologies for that.

during setup, we have tripped over a bug in digest delivery mode,
which seems fixed now. however, i'd welcome immediate off-list
feedback from digest users if anything looks fishy.

-*-

there are some new spam filters in effect. i'll polish them during
the next few days, to see how they behave with real-life traffic,
and as soon as they have matured a bit, they will be documented on
the lad page.

-*-

in the same move, a linux-audio-announce list has been created as a
service for those who want stay on top of latest news *and* keep
their mail traffic low. it is moderated (currently by me, but i'm
looking out for co-moderators) and public. only announcements will
be accepted, no discussions, please.

the basic idea is to cross-post *ALL* announcements to
linux-audio-announce. please read

        http://www.linuxdj.com/audio/lad/subscribelaa.php3

for further information.

i plan to advertise this list to news services such as lwn.net, and
to mainainers of linux audio news sites.
it can serve as a convenient way for you to reach all those people,
and will help them to keep track of things more easily.

-*-

the lad homepage has been restructured and updated.
the http://www.linuxdj.com/audio/lad/user.php3 page has been moved
to http://www.linuxdj.com/audio/lad/subscribelau.php3. if you link
to it from a web page, please update.

-*-

many thanks and kudos to douglas irving repetto, who always helped
out when i had found a new way to break his mailman setup.

best regards,

jörn
