and once that's done, make sure it's disabled at boot time.
I've never installed esd, but I assume it's started with the
usual System V init procedure.
go into /etc/rc3.d and do: grep esd *
Whatever file you find, rename it so its first letter is
lowercase s instead of S.

Unless the same script is used for something essential,
which would be stupid.
