Hi folks,
I upgraded my kernel to 2.4.18, and cannot seem to get 0.9.0rc1 to build
on my system. I previously had 0.5.10 working with 2.4.7 kernel. I
used the original config.status to copy the ./configure steps, and
everything seems to build ok, and make install returns no errors.
I drop out of X to runlevel 3 and rmmod the OSS-free opl3sa2 and
soundcore modules, and then pop back to runlevel 5. I get the following
in /var/log/messages:
modprobe: Can't locate module sound-service-0-0
modprobe: Can't locate module sound-slot-0
This loops until I get sick of hearing my hard drive ticking and
re-insert the OSS-free driver. And yes, I did change snd-card-opl3sa2
to snd-opl3sa2. (Rant: We need documentation from the current
millennium! I will volunteer to help, but I need a working system FIRST
--- I don't think we need a 'I tried alsa and it destroyed my
self-esteem' document...)
Also, when I try to modprobe snd-opl3sa2 I get:
/lib/modules/2.4.18-3smp/snd-opl3sa2.o: init_module: No such device
Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters,
including invalid IO or IRQ parameters
/lib/modules/2.4.18-3smp/snd-opl3sa2.o: insmod
/lib/modules/2.4.18-3smp/snd-opl3sa2.o failed
/lib/modules/2.4.18-3smp/snd-opl3sa2.o: insmod snd-opl3sa2 failed
Anyone willing to help me figure this out? I promise to provide
detailed instructions and keep it up-to-date. I will even provide it in
ASCII, HTML and PDF... "Oh, the pain!"
