I can only give an anti recommnedation. Work bought me a dell 8100. Its a
great desktop machine, but a terrible laptop! I weighs a ton and its too
hot to put on your knees, but it has an amazing screen and keyboard.
I've heard good things about IBM X series machines, though I've not used
one much so...
I think you'l find that most laptops have bad audio. You can get USB sound
devices though.
