I have not red any previous messages in this thread, but the latest "mandrake
cooker snapshot", 2002-06-06 has alsa 0.9.0rc1 compiled as a kernel module. I
installed it and everything seems to work. There is possibly still the
trouble with devfs and configuring module.config since mandrake is relying
mostly on OSS for sound, but it was rather smoth to set up for me...

Previously, I had trouble installing alsa 0.9.0 on mandrake 8.2, since 0.5 is
already there as a kernel module, so I would not try it. And virtually
nothing seem to work with alsa 0.5 (at least for my SBLive board)
