just though i'd add at this point that linux has never really pulled
data from my cd burner that well !

Ive got 2 cdroms - one always worked great ( till i accidently got some
paper stuck in it -- erm, idiot ), but my cheap Ricoh cd burner always
coughs and splutters when i pull large amounts of data from it ( eg
building an iso using xcdroast ) - it burns cd's no problem tho.
