I had a similar problem, when I ran ./configure for the alsa-lib, I didn't
configure with a soundcard, do ./configure --help to get a list of
soundcards so you can run configure for ice1712, then when you have
actually installed alsa ok, you need a program called "envy24control" to
actually set up audio input and output. I tried to just use alsamixer for
two weeks, but no, you need envy because the internel patchbay in the
ice1712 is too complicated to work with a standard mixing software. The
envy24control has a patchbay so you can select analog or digital audio in,
out, etc....
